More on Inspiring Women in Jamaica       Hello again readers, I hope that all is well with you all. Today I will be giving you more information about my DH Project Inspiring Women in Jamaica. I would like to give you guys a background on the project and the thought process of creating the project.      I had to create my own Digital Humanities Project for my final grade and at first, I was worried about what topic I would focus on, what tools I would be using, how will I curate my project and what would be the purpose of my project, and how it would contribute to the humanities. After looking at some DH Projects that I thought were interesting to help me come up with some ideas, I was inspired by the projects Baldwin’s Paris and the New Haven Building Archive. These projects are both maps of specific geographical locations and this inspired me to do something of the same nature.      At first, my idea was to create a map that pinp...

Oral History

Oral History Hello all, how have you guys been since my last post? I hope you’re all doing ok. Today we will be going into another aspect under Digital Humanities which will be Oral History. Oral history is “ the collection and study of historical information using sound recordings of interviews with people having personal knowledge of past events” (Google Dictionary). Some examples of these are podcasts and interviews.   I know you must be wondering, how is oral history any different from a photograph or written history? Well, I can say from a viewer’s perspective and from a participant’s perspective the experience is very different. When we listen to oral history there’s more context to the story or event, meaning that you will get a better understanding of what the person has to say by the way they react to different things and the tone of voice they use, the emotions that they express through their language, etc. Oral history can be very personal so whenever you listen to it...

More on Archives                        Hello readers, how have you been? I am here again with another blog post on Archives and I know that last time when I initially introduced the Archives as a topic to you, I didn’t go too much into detail about it. Well luckily for you today I will be addressing Archives in more detail to bring you a better understanding of what Archives are and what they are about. Now, for you to know what archives are, you should understand that archives can be defined in more than one way because they can consist of almost anything from things like financial records to historical records to other tangible and intangible (digital) documents and objects that are preserved for memories. Archives are collected and group together for many other different purposed such as legal purposes, for learning and research purposes, to organize and analyze the archive and much more. However, ...

What is Digital Humanities?

What is Digital Humanities? Hello again, since we have already been introduced, I will dive into my thoughts so far on what Digital Humanities is. Last time in my introduction I gave a brief explanation of what I thought Digital Humanities was and now I am going to go more into dept and expound on the idea. Today I will also evaluate a Digital Humanities Project to give a better understanding of Digital humanities on a general level. Digital Humanities is how we gather information, study that information, and the findings or conclusions that we come to after the interpretation of all the knowledge we have gained using digital tools. Digital tools can be any platform on the internet where one can use to upload information or use information that was already on the internet like online videos, images, still and moving texts, etc., and then it is posted as a Digital Humanities Project. This platform, Blogger.com, is one example of platforms where you will find Digital Pro...

Introduction

Welcome to my Blog Hello all, welcome to my blog. I'm Raheema Morris and I am an international college student majoring in Business Management at  Saint Francis College . Most of my free time is spent listening to music all day every day and reading  Webtoon   comics. I also have been  teaching myself new crafts and such, like crocheting swimsuits and other apparel for the past year.  However, on this blog, we will be taking a look into Digital Humanities (DH) by providing information, experimenting, and making use of digital tools. It is basically how we study and interpret the different cultures and societies around the world and the knowledge that we gain from this. It also includes the study of how the different forms of humanities should be interpreted and what effect they have on its audience or the public.  If you are not familiar with Digital Humanities this will be a learning experience for both of us, so I hope you stay tuned for more pos...
